ZARA & SAMUEL ROSS ATELIER: EDITION 1 — SR_A ENGINEERED BY ZARA

Words by kojojumah

Samuel Ross introduces the first chapter of SR_A engineered by Zara—a multi-part dialogue between his multidisciplinary practice and Zara’s global reach. SR_A (Samuel Ross Atelier) extends across art, furniture, industrial design, and garments. With this collaboration, Ross opens his vision to a wider audience through a focused menswear capsule, unveiled in curated installations in Paris and New York before global release.

The collection reflects Ross’s signature language of proportion and materiality: voluminous fabrics, rich but grounded palettes, and structures that balance weight with movement. Designed for respite, transition, and the rhythm of everyday life, each piece offers both protection and perspective. “My intersection sits between culture and youth culture, art and fashion,” Ross explains. “It’s about bringing these elements together to create a tension of connection.”

Outerwear anchors the collection—hooded silhouettes and naturally finished fabrics provide shelter, while trapper hats in faux fur insulate against external noise. The ready-to-wear beneath remains refined, minimalist, and quietly unorthodox: garments that move seamlessly between work, play, and cultural space.

Accessories continue the narrative of utility and beauty. Hand-painted sandals with Japanese shiso stitching and runners in vegetable-tanned leather evoke a lean, almost formal minimalism. Bags, crafted from overdyed cotton with functional closures, balance precision with pragmatism.

Ross frames these designs as “equipment for a pan-cultural protagonist”—clothing for navigating the 21st-century odyssey. In partnership with Zara, his vision of contemporary classicism is distilled into accessible, artist-authored editions. “I see these as special works that reflect everything we create in the atelier,” says Ross, “and a way to pass that message forward.”

SR_A engineered by Zara: Edition 1 debuts worldwide on February 6, accompanied by a campaign shot by Gabriel Moses.
