Oakley continues its exploration of design heritage with the return of the FatCat, one of the brand’s most distinctive eyewear silhouettes from the early 2000s. Reintroduced as part of the MUZM collection, the release revisits a model that helped define an era of sport-inspired fashion while introducing contemporary performance upgrades for a new generation.
Originally launched in 2004, the FatCat emerged during a period when Oakley’s futuristic approach to eyewear was reshaping both athletic and streetwear aesthetics. More than two decades later, the silhouette returns with the same bold identity that made it a standout. The sculpted frame, deep-set lenses and exaggerated proportions remain faithful to the original design, preserving the visual language that cemented its place within the brand’s archive.
While the shape remains unchanged, the updated model incorporates Oakley’s Prizm Lens Technology, enhancing colour, contrast and visual clarity. The signature Heavy Stretch Logo continues to define the frame’s profile, while lightweight O-Matter construction ensures durability, flexibility and comfort for everyday wear. The result is a balance between archival authenticity and modern performance.
Leading the campaign is professional footballer and Team Oakley athlete Alexia Putellas, who represents the latest chapter of the brand’s expanding connection to contemporary sports culture. As part of the recently introduced Oakley Players Collection, Putellas highlights the crossover between athletic performance and lifestyle expression.
“FatCat has that rare balance of heritage and futurism,” says Putellas. “It’s rooted in a defining moment of sports culture, but still feels like something designed for what’s next.”
The Oakley MUZM FatCat launches in two colourways: Matte Black paired with Prizm Grey lenses and Cream finished with Prizm 24K Polarized lenses. The collection becomes available from 26 May through Oakley.com, selected Oakley retail locations and global retail partners, bringing a celebrated archive design back into focus.
