Capricorn Group’s First Road Car Is a Hypercar Designed by Italian Icon Zagato

The Capricorn 01 Zagato is the first road car from Germany’s Capricorn Group, a firm known for supplying components to Formula 1 and endurance racing teams. In collaboration with legendary Italian coachbuilder Zagato, the 01 combines motorsport precision with sculptural design. Only nineteen units will be produced, making it one of the world’s most exclusive hypercars.

Shape and Presence

The 01 Zagato sits low, sculpted as if carved from a single piece of carbon fiber. Its Ford GT-inspired lines flow seamlessly, featuring a long front deck, muscular haunches, and Zagato’s signature double-bubble roof. Every contour is refined for continuity rather than aggression. Subtle air intakes draw airflow into the body, while the rear tapers around a wide diffuser, grounding the car visually.

Gullwing doors open with a precise mechanical sweep, revealing a cockpit framed in exposed carbon and narrow glass. The design emphasizes timelessness and restraint, intended to age gracefully alongside Zagato’s historic works.

Performance and Materials

Beneath the bodywork is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, delivering over 900 horsepower to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox, emphasizing driver engagement. The car weighs under 1,200 kilograms, with a carbon-fiber chassis, double-wishbone suspension, and adaptive dampers. Downforce is generated through underbody airflow, maintaining the car’s clean silhouette.

Interior Character

The cockpit is minimalist and purposeful, combining Connolly leather, brushed aluminum, and exposed carbon fiber. Three analog gauges dominate the dashboard, and the steering wheel features only two buttons — start and mode — leaving control firmly in the driver’s hands.
