Monochrome Precision: Stone Island x New Balance 574 Ghost Returns

Stone Island and New Balance continue their ongoing design dialogue with a second release of the 574 Ghost, refining their shared focus on textile innovation and understated experimentation. This latest edition strips the silhouette back to a fully monochromatic statement, wrapping the entire shoe in plush suede for a uniform, tactile finish that highlights form over flash.

The 574 remains one of New Balance’s most enduring models, but here it undergoes a full Ghost treatment. Tonality defines every surface, from upper to sole, including a suede-covered midsole created exclusively for this partnership. Added padding at the tongue, collar, and upper subtly reshapes the sneaker’s profile, giving it a more sculptural presence while enhancing comfort for everyday movement.

Construction plays a central role in the redesign. A stitch-and-turn method removes visible overlapping seams, resulting in smooth, continuous lines that echo the padded construction found in technical outerwear. Textural contrast replaces color contrast: a brushed “N” logo and heel tab sit against the sleek suede body, while a debossed “STONE ISLAND PRODUCT RESEARCH” stamp marks the lateral side. The tonal felt Compass patch on the tongue and printed insole graphic extend the layered detailing. Inside, lightweight EVA and ENCAP cushioning ensure the shoe retains the performance foundation that made the original silhouette a staple. Even the ridged laces are custom, referencing fastening details seen across Ghost garments.

This season introduces three shades—dark beige, slate blue, and dust grey—aligned with the brand’s Spring_Summer 026 palette. Campaign imagery by Christopher Anderson places the sneakers against Cretto di Burri, the monumental installation by Alberto Burri in Sicily, reinforcing the collection’s dialogue between texture, landscape, and design.
